Caroline Pidgeon, the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Transport Spokesperson, commenting on the final ruling on the cost of the second phase of Tube Lines contract upgrading the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines said:

"This announcement signals the need for a complete review of how the tube is upgraded.

"A serious look is needed into short block closures of a few stations, where the upgrade work is completed over a few weeks."

Mayor Boris starts the search for London’s best young buskers  

London's most talented buskers are being sought by Mayor Boris Johnson in a major competition to crown the capital's best musical talent.

Musicians or singers aged 16-25 are invited to compete for the coveted prize of a year's licence to busk on London Underground.  The winner will also receive studio time, live gigs at various venues and musical instruments

Deputy Mayor for Policing Kit Malthouse, has today (March 9) called on the Government to do more to tackle the scourge of dangerous ‘weapon’ dogs on London's streets, including tougher sentences for those caught with banned breeds or whose dogs are out of control.

Three new Rape Crisis Centres will open in London this year, following the Mayor's pledge to quadruple Rape Crisis provision in the capital.  The first will open in Ealing next month followed later in the year by new services in the north and east.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has today (March 5), announced a £900,000 funding boost to help hundreds of the capital’s homeless gain essential skills and get back to work.

The Homeless to Work programme, funded by the Mayor through the London Development Agency (LDA), will see outreach teams working directly with homeless in London offering them opportunities to gain skills and training.

"No attempt at spinning by the Mayor’s office can explain away the totally contradictory statements that the Mayor has made over the Thames Estuary Airport in the last 18 months.

"The Mayor must now listen to the incredible coalition of people who are opposed to the proposed airport and finally end the sorry saga of this pie in the sky idea."
